Travel gifts — what actually makes it into the suitcase

Travel accessories are a category where it's very easy to buy something that looks great and never travels. The only test that matters is whether an item earns the space it takes in a bag.

Three kinds of item pass that test consistently: things that organise (packing cubes, toiletry bags, cable organisers), things that solve a problem en route (power bank, travel adapter, neck pillow), and things that replace something heavier. Everything else stays home after the first trip.

If you're buying for someone who travels often, aim at upgrading something they already carry — an old day bag, a power bank that lasts half a day, earbuds without noise cancelling. For an occasional traveller, a basic organisation set will be more useful than a clever gadget.
